Although the original frescoes are no longer in the church, projectors have been set up to evoke the original works and give visitors a feel of what they used to look like. To view the original frescoes and other religious artifacts, head down the street to Espai Columba

Sample High-Altitude Wines

One might not think of Andorra as being very famous for wine. However, wine-making in the region dates back to the 10th century, and the country produces wines that are quite different from normal wines. Known as high-altitude wines, they are trickier to grow in the mountain climate. To be considered a high-altitude wine, the grapes must be grown at 900 meters above sea level or higher. Production at such a height brings out more acidity in the wine, giving it a fresher taste.

You’ve probably been on wine tours before, but since wine production is different in Andorra, why not treat yourself to a wine tour and tasting? At Borda Sabaté, a winery tour takes visitors on a drive through the grounds in a 4×4 vehicle. Afterward, visitors can sample some award-winning wines. If you are interested in doing a cellar tour, you must be in a group of at least six people.

Experience Andorra’s Falles and Fallaires Festival

If you are lucky enough to be visiting Andorra in June, then you have to experience the Falles and Fallaires Festival. This festival was forgotten about in the middle of the 1800s but was brought back in 1987. The tradition goes that young people (the fallaires) from each region would set fire to a long boxwood log covered in strips of birch bark (falla or falles) on a mountainside and wave it around in an enchanting way. Sometimes, the falla would be brought down to the village to light a bonfire in the middle of the town. This tradition now takes place on two different nights, in Ordino on June 28th and in Andorra la Vella, Encamp, Sant Julià de Lòria, Escaldes-Engordany, Canillo, and la Massana on June 23rd.

There you have them, the best of Andorra’s attractions! Now all you have to do is figure out how many of these fantastic adventures you can pack into one holiday. Oh, and don’t forget to try and learn a bit of Catalan before visiting.
